Ravishing Recipe – Wasabi, Soy and Mirin Tuna Steaks

This has to be one of my all time favourite AND speedy meals! It literally takes me less than 15 minutes to get this on the table AND looking spectacular!

Yes I do feature a lot of fish dishes! I cannot emphasise enough just how important an adequate intake of omega 3 fatty acids are. For all kinds of inflammation; brain growth, development and protection as we get older; healthy joints, the list goes on.

Too many of us DON’T get enough of these essential fats.

3-6 serves of fish a week is recommended. Of course Wild Caught is best, local, even better! But just do your best!

Remember that snacking on tinned tuna/salmon is an option, sardines on toast for breakfast is YUMMY, and there are many types of fish dishes to explore- curries, skewers, patties, pasta/rice meals….! So really it is easier than you think, and as many clients tell me, MUCH TASTIER than they expected!

Wasabi, Soy and Mirin Tuna Steaks

You will need:

120g-200g tuna steak per person
Tube of wasabi paste*
Soy Sauce
Baking paper

*can be found in the Asian section of the supermarket where Japanese food products are stocked


Coat each tuna steak with 1 teaspoon, or more, of wasabi paste. Use the teaspoon to spread around.
Pour some mirin over each steak and then some soy sauce.
Heat a non-stick pan and line with baking paper, or alternatively use 1 tsp olive or coconut oil (per steak) to coat pan.
Cook steaks on both sides until cooked to liking.

Personally I like these not too well done- rare in the middle.

Serve these steaks flaked into chunks over a large garden salad with added avocado (1/4 per person), vine-ripened tomatoes, steamed sweet potato (you can crisp these up if preferred by place in oven or under grill), blanched green beans and some crispy steamed broccoli or cauliflower.

Dress with a little soy and mirin (+/- added wasabi) and your choice of 1 tsp sesame oil or flaxseed oil (personally I love flaxseed with this one!)

And Voila! Dinner is served!

Top Tip: why not prepare extra and whilst making dinner, get out a container and duplicate the above for lunch tomorrow! Excellent!
